The 2025 model year Mazda3 has reached dealerships across New Zealand. The new range is a hatch-only offering, with the sedan being dropped from the range, while exterior design and interior remain unchanged from previous models.
Mazda New Zealand says the 3 has been a popular choice among New Zealand customers since the debut of the first generation car back in 2003, with more than 33,000 vehicles currently on the road, and that the current fourth generation car builds on the success of previous generations in the local market.
The Mazda3 range for 2025 includes four models and kicks off with the GSX at $38,890. The GSX comes standard with a high level of technology and safety features - including a full colour Active Driving Display projected onto the windscreen, and a 7-inch TFT display within the instrument cluster - and is powered by Mazda's 114kW/200Nm 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G petrol engine with cylinder deactivation technology. Mazda claims a combined fuel consumption of 6.6l/100km and CO2 emissions of 153g/km for the GSX.
The $42,990 SP25 replaces the GTX in the range and features a 139kW/252Nm 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G petrol engine and combined fuel consumption of 7.3l/100km and CO2 emissions of 171g/km.
Next up is the $51,490 Homura model that replaces the Limited variant. Powered by the same 2.5-litre FWD powertrain as the SP25, the Homura includes 18-inch gloss black alloy wheels, gloss black exterior mirrors, and black exterior accents, along with red interior stitching. It also features an electric glass sunroof, adaptive LED headlights, leather upholstery, heated and electrically adjustable seats, a high-power Bose 12-speaker audio system, and a 360-degree View Monitor camera system.
The range is finished off by the top-of-the-line Takami model that features Mazda's 132kW/224Nm SkyActiv-X M Hybrid engine that uses spark controlled compression ignition (SPCCI) for efficient fuel consumption, with Mazda claiming a combined fuel figure of 6.1l/100km and CO2 emissions of 150g/km. The Takami model features a unique burgundy red leather interior (There is no word on whether it smells of rich mahogany though).
