  • 1967 Pontiac GTO used in the 2002 film XXX is listed for sale at around NZ$131,000.
  • It features a 6.6-litre V8 producing 249kW with an A/T and RWD.
  • Movie car retains functional props, custom paint and branding from the film.

Forget replicas - this is the real deal.

A genuine movie car from 2002’s XXX, the outrageous Pontiac GTO driven by Vin Diesel’s character Xander Cage, is now listed for US$79,900 (about NZ$131,000).

And yes, this muscle-bound hero car still looks ready to fire missiles from its headlights.

Built off a 1967 Pontiac GTO, the stunt-modified coupe was one of the stars of the over-the-top action flick that launched Diesel’s extreme-sports-meets-espionage franchise.

Under the bonnet, there’s a 6.6-litre V8 putting out 249kW, paired with a no-nonsense automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels.

More gauges than a spaceship

Inside, it’s a wild throwback to early-2000s movie magic. The dashboard bristles with at least 16 separate gauges and dials (including a flame-accented “turbo boost” unit) and other functional props that recall the film’s most explosive moments.

While it’s unclear whether every gadget still works as originally configured, the car’s previous owner demonstrated their functionality in an episode of Jay Leno’s Garage.

What’s not up for debate is how unmistakably iconic this GTO remains. It still wears the custom paint created for the film, brandishes its “XXX” branding, and features functional side pipes that scream cinematic cool.

A collector’s dream (with a V8 soundtrack)

Unlike tribute builds or resto-mods, this is one of the actual screen-used cars, adding a dose of Hollywood history to its already considerable muscle car appeal. While NZ might not be home to many missile-equipped GTOs, the buyer will end up with a functioning, drivable piece of film lore - assuming they don’t mind standing out.

Motor Car Classics currently has the vehicle listed, and while it might not come with secret-agent credentials or a hidden ejector seat, it definitely delivers on attitude, soundtrack and star power.
