471kW V8 convertible blends speed with usability.

471kW V8 convertible blends speed with usability.

  • The Ferrari Amalfi Spider is a new 2+ front-mid-engined convertible with a fabric roof.
  • Its twin-turbo 3.9-litre V8 produces 471kW/760Nm, with a 320km/h top speed.
  • The soft top opens in 13.5 seconds at up to 60km/h, with 255L of boot space closed.

Ferrari has lifted the covers off the Amalfi Spider, a new front-engined V8 convertible that aims to combine the brand’s trademark performance with the practicality of a 2+ open-top grand tourer.

Built around the same front-mid-mounted twin-turbo V8 from the Amalfi, the Amalfi Spider sits firmly in Ferrari’s performance-lifestyle category, offering the kind of open-air experience many buyers want without sacrificing everyday usability.

Turbo V8 muscle

At the heart of the Amalfi Spider lies the latest evolution of Ferrari’s 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 from the F154 engine family.

In this configuration the unit produces 471kW at 7500rpm and 760Nm between 3000 and 5750rpm, driving the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Performance figures are predictably brisk. Ferrari claims 0 to 100km/h in 3.3 seconds, 0 to 200km/h in 9.4 seconds and a top speed of 320km/h.

The engine’s response has been sharpened through advanced turbo control, allowing the rotational speed of the two turbochargers to be managed independently. Ferrari says this improves throttle response while boosting overall pressure control.

Convertible comfort without compromise

A key part of the Amalfi Spider’s appeal is its fabric soft-top system. The roof opens in 13.5 seconds and can be operated at speeds of up to 60km/h, making spontaneous open-air driving simple.

Despite being a convertible, practicality remains part of the brief. Boot space stands at 255L with the roof closed, dropping to 172L when open.

The soft top itself measures just 220mm thick when stowed, helping maximise luggage capacity.

Ferrari has also fitted a five-layer acoustic fabric roof designed to provide insulation comparable with the brand’s retractable hard-top models.

Aerodynamics and driver tech

Aerodynamics play a major role in the Amalfi Spider’s performance. The car features an active rear wing with three positions, automatically adjusting depending on speed and driving conditions. In its high-downforce setting the wing can generate up to 110kg of additional load at 250km/h.

Inside, Ferrari has updated the driver interface with a 15.6-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch central touchscreen and an 8.8-inch passenger display. Physical buttons also return to the steering wheel, alongside the brand’s iconic aluminium start button.

Safety technology includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assistance, while Ferrari’s latest brake-by-wire system and ABS Evo software aim to improve braking precision and stability.

On paper at least, the Amalfi Spider ticks a familiar Ferrari box: serious performance wrapped in an elegant open-top GT package, just with a bit more everyday usability thrown into the mix.
