Last December, Holden and HSV dropped the bombshell (well, relatively predictable bombshell I guess) that they would begin stocking right-hand drive versions of the Chevrolet Camaro and Silverado. This was announced alongside the new HSV Colorado SportsCat.
Ever since, we've been patiently waiting for pricing. And while those keen on a Camaro will have to keep waiting, anyone concerned with Silverado pricing can now look under their couch pillows and through their secret dollar stash in the garage — pricing has been announced.
Five models are heading to Aotearoa; four variants of the big-boy 2500HD, and one of even bigger-boy 3500HDs.
Pricing begins at $134,990 for the 2500HD WT. The 2500HD LTZ is next at $154,990; followed by the two special models — the Midnight Edition and Custom Sport Edition at $163,990 each. Each of these are expected to land here in June.
Then there's the 3500HD LTD, which slides in at $169,000 and should hit the country in the third quarter.
All five variants share powertrain (a 332kW, 1234Nm Duramax 6.6-litre Turbo Diesel V8), as well as things like a heavy duty locking rear differential and anti-lock disc brakes. Towing capabilities are the same throughout too, at a claimed 5.89 tonnes. But they also include their share of differences.
The 2500HD WT's 'WT' designation signifies 'work truck', though it's still well optioned with MyLink and all of its supporting interior gizmos.
The LTZ adds a lick of luxury (perforated leather-appointed heated and electric bucket seats, dual-zone climate control, and a larger 8-inch infotainment screen that houses a Bose sound system) and performance (revised shock absorbers, front stabilizer bar, and hill descent control) to the mix.
The Midnight Edtion is effectively a 'murdered out' LTZ with virtually everything dipped in black, while the Custom Sport Edition comes with polished 20-inch wheels, white highlights, and a spray-on bed liner among other changes.
The big, bonkers 3500HD LTD will have its specs revealed at a later date.
New Zealand's thirst for pick-ups is at its peak level, and while these dollar values look like a hefty ask, buyers are getting an incredibly massive amount of vehicle for their money (quite literally ... these things are enormous).
“The availability of the Chevrolet Silverado range opens up some wonderful new opportunities for our business in a market segment that is relatively un-tapped and, we believe, has high growth potential,” says HSV Managing Director Tim Jackson.
“Whether it be the farming or mining sectors, those who need to pull a large caravan, boat or horse float, or simply those who want awesome towing and load carrying capability, Silverado is the pinnacle.”
Now, how about that Camaro pricing ...
