All Ferraris are special in some way (apart from maybe the Mondial), but when tasked with the question of 'which is the most special' — most motoring buffs will fire back with the F40.
Ha, unintended fire pun.
The F40 took the benchmark for what a supercar could do to new heights when it was launched in the mid-’80s, and even now still cops praise for being one of the most raw experiences once can have behind a steering wheel.
But, the world has sadly one F40 less, following a fierce road-side fire in Italy that claimed a prototype F40 (with a GT conversion) — reportedly one of only eight in the world (this being number six in that sequence). Click here to watch the video.
You may have even seen this F40 in the past. It's former owner is reportedly Jon Hunt from YouTube channel TaxTheRich, who published a video of them thrashing the F40 through a set of cones just last year.
Those familiar with the channel will know that they have a long history of doing insane things with rather expensive cars; whether it's a flaming burnout with a Jaguar XJ220 or rallying a Rolls-Royce Wraith. Hunt himself is supposedly about to add a Ferrari Aperta to his car list.
According to local reports, the deceased F40 was in a procession with a host of other Ferraris when it somehow caught fire. Nobody knows just yet what caused said fire, thankfully nobody sustained injuries.
This isn't the first F40 to go up in flames. In fact just last year a freshly restored example combusted while on its maiden post-restoration voyage.
