A stunning 1968 Ford Mustang fastback is set to go under the hammer at Mecum’s Florida Summer Special on July 12, blending classic charm with brutal modern performance in one seriously bespoke restomod package.
V8 fury beneath vintage flair
At first glance, it’s all classic car swagger: a Gulf Racing livery, hand-shaped front wheel flares and sleek Kingdig-it Design recessed door handles.
But underneath that retro skin lurks a 5.0-litre Aluminator XS V8, tuned by Ford to produce more than 373kW.
With an 11.0:1 compression ratio and forged Mahle pistons, this isn’t just a pretty pony - it’s built to be thrashed.
A Tremec six-speed manual connects all that grunt to an 8.8-inch rear end, rolling on CCW alloys wrapped in grippy BF Goodrich rubber. Suspension by Griggs Racing keeps it composed through the corners, while Wilwood discs haul it up in a hurry. With just 2695mi (4337km) on the clock, it’s barely broken in.
Classic shell, modern vibe
Inside, the cabin balances period flavour with contemporary refinement. Custom-coloured gauges from Classic Instruments sit alongside a Vintage Air HVAC unit and a modern Sony sound system, complete with a subwoofer.
Leather bucket seats and harnesses provide support, and a fire suppression system offers added peace of mind - backed up by a rollcage with removable sidebars.
No reserve on cool
Mecum hasn’t disclosed a reserve price, according to the listing, but with its bespoke build, low mileage and show-stopping spec, this Mustang restomod won’t be going cheap.
When the hammer falls on July 12, don’t expect any bargains - just one hell of a Mustang.
