Swedish electric performance car brand Polestar has announced an exciting collaboration with Mattel's Hot Wheels for its 2024 Design Contest.
This competition, which has been stirring the imagination of designers since 2020, now takes a unique turn by inviting participants to integrate Polestar’s design DNA into their vision of the ultimate Hot Wheels collectible.
Bringing dreams to the design board
The 2024 Polestar Design Contest promises to be the most extreme edition to date. Entrants are encouraged to let their imagination run wild, crafting submissions that blend the essence of their youthful dreams with advanced vehicle design and performance concepts.
Maximilian Missoni, Polestar’s Head of Design, encapsulates this spirit: “Dreams have the power to inspire and transport us beyond what we thought possible. This is a chance for all participating designers to really push that Polestar envelope and let their imagination run riot”.
A Hot Wheels collaboration like no other
Entrants are encouraged to push the boundaries of performance and design, with the only requirement being that the design can be translated into a 1:64 Hot Wheels die-cast vehicle.
The inclusion of vehicle interior design and immediate surroundings as part of the submissions highlights the comprehensive nature of this contest.
It’s a challenge that calls for both creativity and feasibility, ensuring the design can transition from concept to a tangible Hot Wheels model.
The winning design will mark the first Hot Wheels-Polestar vehicle to be produced and made available for purchase worldwide as part of a broader partnership with Polestar production models.

Key dates and details for contestants
Aspiring designers, both professionals and students, should mark their calendars, as the 2024 Polestar Design Contest opens for entries on 5 March 2024, with a submission deadline of 16 April 2024.
The winner of this competition is expected to be announced in the fourth quarter of 2024.
