Mercedes-AMG has opened German order books for its electric CLA 45 4Matic+, putting prices against a three-motor performance car offered in saloon and Shooting Brake forms.
The latest announcement moves the model into the ordering phase, with buyers able to purchase through dealerships or online. Both body styles combine an 800V electrical architecture with AMG's variable all-wheel-drive system.
Two bodies, two starting prices
The saloon starts at €79,039 in Germany, while the Shooting Brake costs €80,408. Both figures include German VAT, with vehicle transfer or factory collection charged separately.
Those are German-market prices. The announcement does not yet disclose New Zealand pricing, availability or launch timing.
The Shooting Brake also takes a different approach to its active aerodynamics. It uses an adjustable roof spoiler, while the saloon has an active rear spoiler. Their angles change to balance drag and downforce, and active louvres at the front open when additional cooling is required.
500kW from three electric motors
Mercedes-AMG quotes peak system output of 500kW and maximum torque of 1759Nm from three axial-flux electric motors.
Its claimed 0–100km/h time is 2.7 seconds, although that figure excludes the first 30.48cm of travel through a rollout allowance.
The AMG Performance 4Matic+ system varies drive between the front and rear axles, while independent torque control at the rear wheels adds another layer of adjustment. The motors can also be decoupled.
For the saloon, the manufacturer claims a WLTP range exceeding 670km. It also quotes a 10–80 per cent charging time of 22 minutes at a suitable fast charger, without specifying battery capacity or peak charging power in this announcement.
Adaptive damping joins the hardware
Underneath, the CLA 45 uses steel springs with AMG Ride Control adaptive three-way damping. Springs, dampers and wheel-control components have all been redesigned.
