Bentley’s Mulliner division has turned its attention skyward for the Copernicus Collection, a trio of bespoke commissions inspired by the Sun, Earth and Moon.
Each car interprets its celestial subject through a distinct combination of colours and materials. Rather than relying on a single paint-and-trim formula, Mulliner has given the three commissions individual identities while preserving a clear visual link across the set.
That connection is an eight-planet Copernicus motif, which appears throughout the collection as a recurring astronomical signature. The detail references Nicolaus Copernicus and the heliocentric model that placed the Sun at the centre of the solar system.
The Sun commission takes the brightest role in the group, while the Earth and Moon cars use their own bespoke palettes and textures to translate their respective themes. Bentley has not disclosed pricing for the commissions or confirmed any New Zealand availability.
Beneath the tailored finishes, all three share the same engineering foundation. A 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 works with a hybrid system to deliver approximately 500kW. The specification also includes active chassis technology, 22-inch wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes.
Those mechanical elements give the collection considerably more substance than a cosmetic exercise. The hybrid powertrain supplies the performance expected of a modern Bentley, while the active chassis and high-performance braking hardware support the cars’ dynamic credentials.
Copernicus is also a neat example of how far Bentley’s personalisation operation can stretch a single idea. The three commissions share a concept, motif and technical package, yet the contrasting Sun, Earth and Moon treatments prevent them from becoming simple copies in different colours.
