Atto 3 Evo is a massive upgrade, and goes RWD/AWD.

  • BYD NZ will land 2750 new cars this month.
  • Cars will satisfy orders dating back to April, plus new stock.
  • Coastal shipping to speed up delivery of South Island cars.

Two vessels arriving in Auckland at the end of this month will not only make up BYD New Zealand's biggest-ever monthly delivery, they will also be bringing two brand-new models: a plug-in hybrid (DM-i) version of the Atto 2 SUV, previously only available as a pure-electric model, and the just-announced Atto 3 Evo.

BYD Atto 2.
Atto 2 was launched this year as a BEV, but a plug-in hybrid option is set to arrive.

The Morning Cara will bring 2395 BYDs to Auckland Ports and the Morning Celesta will bring 355 units, making a total shipment of 2750 vehicles into the country at the end of August.

Aside from the new models, the two shipments cover most of the BYD range, including the recently launched Shark 6 Performance ute.

The company says strong demand for new energy vehicles, combined with ongoing shipping constraints from China, has created a backlog of orders dating back to April. These two shipments fill those orders and also
deliver "substantial on-ground stock".

To improve delivery times for South Island customers, BYD NZ has arranged coastal shipping to transport vehicles directly from Port of Auckland to Lyttelton Port in Christchurch.

"This is a landmark moment for BYD in New Zealand," says Warren Willmot, general manager of BYD Auto NZ. "Bringing in our largest-ever shipment of NEVs shows just how far we've come."
