- New CX-5 will reach NZ in August.
- Touring, SP, Homura and Takami models.
- Prices down across the range, biggest reduction for Takami.
Mazda New Zealand has confirmed pricing for its new 3rd-generation CX-5 SUV, due here in four models from August.
The new lineup introduces three new model names designed to better align the model with other new-generation Mazdas (only the top Takami badge is carried over), but a key point for consumers is that when compared to their equivalents in the outgoing range, the new CX5s are cheaper.
There's no longer a front-drive CX-5, so the entry point is the Touring AWD at $46,490: $600 less expensive than the current GSX FWD (the current range also includes a base GLX FWD for $44,290).
The new SP is a direct replacement for the GSX AWD, currently Mazda NZ's best-seller. At $49,990, it's $300 cheaper than the outgoing car.
The 3rd-gen CX-5 Homura is $57,990, or $3200 less than the outgoing Limited.
In fact, the new flagship Takami is priced closer to that previous Limited at $61,990. That's $5900 les than the previous Takami, the largest price-reduction of the new lineup.
New CX-5 model-by-model
The new CX-5 Touring features 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights with high beam control and privacy glass on the rear windows. There’s an eight-speaker stereo, 12.9-inch Mazda Connect touchscreen with wireless phone projection and charging, dual-zone climate control and heated (cloth) front seats.
The SP upgrades to 19-inch alloys, black roof rails and a powered tailgate. The interior features power driver's seat, "leatherette" trim in black or a black/white combination, head-up display, heated steering wheel and a windscreen de-icer.
The Homura has black gloss exterior accents, metallic black 19-inch wheels, and matching bumper trims and wheelarch mouldings. It brings a panoramic sunroof.
Inside, the Homura offers genuine leather upholstery, power passenger seat, heated outer rear seats, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system. The 360 View Monitor features See-Through View, which now works even when the mirrors are folded and provides a semi-transparent road surface view beneath the vehicle.
The Takami adds hands-free electric tailgate, larger 15.6-inch touch display, and gearshift paddles. Takami also features Sport Tan leather seats with ventilation for the front. It has the Mazda Driver Personalisation System (first introduced in the CX-90) to automatically adjust mirrors and seating for enhanced driver comfort and control.
All versions are powered by Mazda's familiar SkyActiv-G 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine (132kW/242Nm), with a 6-speed automatic transmission and i-Activ all-wheel drive (AWD).
A full hybrid model (SkyActiv-Z) is in the product plan for CX-5, but it's still some time away: a global launch is expected late-2027, making it a likely 2028 option for NZ.
In the Kiwi-specification 3rd-gen CX-5, the 2.5-litre petrol returns 7.9l/100 km in the the WLTP test cycle, improved figures when compared to the second-generation model.
