An older Porsche can still deliver plenty of driving pleasure, even when its dashboard struggles to keep up with a newer phone. Porsche’s latest factory retrofit gives selected 911, Boxster and Cayman owners another way to close that technology gap.
The new generation of Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus, or PCCM Plus, adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to sports cars from model years 2009–2016. Porsche says the expanded offering encompasses more than 300,000 potential future classics.
Keeping the familiar controls
A seven-inch, high-resolution touchscreen is the centrepiece, but the upgrade also retains vehicle-specific personal settings. Where originally fitted, multifunction steering wheel controls remain usable, while navigation and song information can appear in the instrument cluster.
Owners need the version matched to their car. One covers the second-generation 997 and 987 models from model years 2009–2013; the other serves the first-generation 991 and 981 models from 2012–2016. Those codes span the relevant 911, Boxster and Cayman generations.

Phone integration uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The system can connect to the car’s existing sound system and supports internal or external microphones and external media sources. A 4G nano-SIM slot provides another connectivity option.
There are useful upgrades beyond music and messages. Boxster and Cayman models originally equipped with acoustic parking assistance gain a visual distance display. A trip screen can show oil temperature and pressure, alongside map-based speed limits.

A route worth taking
Built-in satellite navigation includes Scenic Roads, a function for finding winding routes. Over-the-air map updates are also supported.
Equipment and functions vary with the model and its original specification, and some features require an active internet connection. Android Auto also requires a compatible Android device and data access.

The systems are available through Porsche Centres worldwide, with Porsche recommending installation by a Porsche Centre. New Zealand pricing has not been disclosed.
