Skoda is adding a full-hybrid powertrain to the Octavia, pairing its familiar hatchback and estate shapes with petrol-electric running that does not require plugging in.
The new model is the brand’s first full hybrid. It uses a 1.5-litre TSI evo2 petrol engine and two electric motors, with a choice of 100kW or 125kW system outputs. Selection and Sportline versions will be offered in both body styles.
Overseas orders open in October, with deliveries due to begin in December 2026. New Zealand availability and pricing have not been disclosed.
How the hybrid works
One electric motor handles generating electricity and starting the engine. The larger motor drives the front wheels and recovers energy during braking. A single-speed automatic transmission and clutch manage the connection between petrol power and the wheels.

The Octavia can travel approximately 2km in electric mode. Its 1.6kWh gross-capacity battery is kept within a 40–90% charge window, while the petrol tank holds 40 litres.
At lower speeds, mainly below approximately 60km/h, the system can operate in series mode: the petrol engine generates electricity for the drive motor. This mode also covers situations involving a low battery charge or high power demand.
Above approximately 60km/h during steady running, parallel operation allows the engine to drive the wheels mechanically, with electric assistance as required. The operating mode also depends on battery charge and power demand.
Skoda has not disclosed a fuel-consumption figure for the new full hybrid.
Hatchback and estate practicality
The hatchback has 460 litres of boot space, expanding to 1400 litres with the rear seats folded. The estate offers 485 litres, or 1540 litres with the seats down.
Inside, the equipment includes a 13-inch infotainment display and a 10-inch digital cockpit. Hybrid badging identifies the new powertrain from outside.
