  • Chinese carmaker Xpeng has announced it will be adding Google Play to its infotainment systems.
  • Owners will be able to download select apps to their car directly, completely bypassing their phone.
  • This follows an earlier collaboration where Xpeng integrated Google Maps into its navigation system.

Xpeng has announced plans to integrate Google Play into its vehicle infotainment systems, with the update scheduled to roll out in early 2027.

The company says the move will allow drivers and passengers to download and use apps directly on the vehicle’s dashboard, without needing to connect a smartphone. The system will run on Android Automotive OS.

According to Xpeng, the in-car app store will support a range of third-party apps, including music and video streaming services, navigation tools, charging and parking locators, and games that are intended for use when the vehicle is stationary.

Xpeng also said the setup is designed to work with its multilingual voice assistant, which will be able to open and control compatible apps using voice commands. The company added that app updates through Google Play could reduce the need for larger full-vehicle over-the-air software updates.

The announcement follows an earlier collaboration between Xpeng and Google in July 2026, when the two companies said Google Maps’ Auto SDK would be integrated into Xpeng's navigation systems. Xpeng has not yet confirmed which models or markets will receive the Google Play integration, or the specific app availability and safety requirements.
