Aston Martin has revisited an early chapter of its racing history with three specially commissioned DB12 S Coupes from its Q personalisation division.
Three colours, three histories
The cars take their cues from three factory DB2 racers known by their VMF registration letters in 1951.
Built in 1950 for that year's 24 Hours of Le Mans, the original trio later competed in both factory and private hands.
Their individual grille colours provided a simple way to tell them apart — and now give each modern tribute its identity.
VMF 63 is marked out by Rosso Red accents, while VMF 64 wears Speed Yellow and VMF 65 adopts Ellwood Blue.
All three share Carbon Black paint, allowing those brighter details to do most of the talking.
The colour treatment extends across the grille vanes, painted carbon-fibre side strakes and Aeroblade. Each car also gains a DB2 foil overlay and a 75 roundel on its fenders, tying the contemporary coupe back to its competition-inspired source.
The theme continues inside
Q by Aston Martin has carried each car's chosen colour into the cabin rather than limiting the tribute to exterior graphics. Colour-matched stitching and Aston Martin wings feature alongside DB2 embroidery, while the rear seats receive more 75 roundels.
Painted details on the rotary controls and shift paddles continue the red, yellow or blue theme. Bespoke sill plaques provide the finishing touch, identifying the commissions as more than a conventional paint-and-trim exercise.
The project gives the DB12 S a visual connection to three cars from Aston Martin's formative racing years without attempting a literal recreation. The original DB2s supply the registrations, colours and competition context; the modern coupes translate those references through carbon fibre, cabin detailing and Q's custom finishes.
Aston Martin has not announced prices, production or allocation details for the trio. New Zealand availability has also not been disclosed.
