Bentley isn't straying too far from home for the production of the forthcoming Torcal, its fourth model line and first-ever full battery electric vehicle (BEV).
The Torcal will be built on a brand-new production line in Crewe in the UK, but it's been created from one of the original factory buildings constructed in 1938, "blending the traditional with cutting-edge new techniques to set new standards in quality," says the company.
Previously housing the machining shop in the early years and most recently an R&D facility, the building was stripped before being fitted with a precisely level floor, which is essential for the use of autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs) to move in-build vehicles around the facility.
The Torcal is one of the first beneficiaries of a new Design Studio established in Crewe. Opened in 2025 and housed in a heavily-renewed building also dating back to 1938, the facility comprises a broad team of designers responsible for the creation of new Bentley cars as well as bespoke furniture projects and other customer requests via the Mulliner department.
It's been teased a lot, but the Torcal will finally be revealed at 19:19 (see what they've done there?) on 23 September (6:19am, September 24 in New Zealand, which doesn't work quite so well as a heritage reference).
