Mercedes-AMG is not ready to let its biggest performance SUVs go quiet.
The brand has revealed updated versions of the GLE 63 S 4Matic+ Coupe and GLS 63 4Matic+, keeping a 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine at the centre of the package.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the engine produces 450kW and 850Nm, with an integrated starter-generator now supporting the powertrain.
The automaker describes this as ISG 2.0, designed to sharpen response as well as support the high-output V8. Mercedes-Benz has not disclosed New Zealand pricing or timing for either model.

The update also brings a fresh front-end treatment. Both models receive an AMG grille treatment and a new LED light signature, giving the large SUVs a more recognisable performance look. The GLS 63 remains the larger, more passenger-focused model, while the GLE 63 S Coupe keeps the more aggressive roofline.

Underneath, the AMG Ride Control+ adaptive air suspension remains central to the cars' dual brief: luxury SUV comfort with a very serious performance edge.
Mercedes-AMG also lists active roll stabilisation and rear-axle steering among the chassis technologies, depending on specification.

The story here is partly technical and partly emotional. Even as AMG leans further into electrification elsewhere, these two SUVs show there is still room in the range for a large-displacement V8 flagship. The figures are familiar AMG theatre: big torque, big sound and enough power to make the size of the vehicles feel faintly absurd.
For New Zealand buyers, the local question is still open. Mercedes-Benz has not confirmed availability, specification or price for this market, so the update remains an international reveal for now. But as a signal of where AMG's largest SUVs still sit, it is clear enough: the V8 has survived another round.
