- Lexus has confirmed its new NX will reach New Zealand showrooms in early 2027.

The new Lexus NX is coming to New Zealand in early 2027, bringing a redesigned hybrid system, sharper styling and a cabin that can change its scent as well as its lighting.
The local confirmation follows the SUV's global unveiling on 1 September. The NX is Lexus' best-selling model in New Zealand, making this a significant replacement for the brand rather than simply another international reveal.
“The NX is the vehicle that balances luxury with practicality and that is why it’s still our best-seller today,” says Andrew Davis, Vice President of Lexus New Zealand.
“We can’t wait to bring it to New Zealand early next year.”
New Zealand pricing, variant availability and full specifications will be confirmed closer to launch.
A bigger battery and faster charging
The plug-in hybrid NX 450h+ gains a battery with 30% more capacity and 8% more output, alongside support for DC fast charging. Lexus also says the revised battery layout improves body rigidity and lowers the centre of gravity.
The wider hybrid overhaul includes a more compact e-Axle combining the transaxle, motor and power control unit. Silicon-carbide semiconductors in the inverter are intended to reduce energy losses.
Globally, Lexus is developing plug-in and conventional hybrid variants. Its European development target for the NX 450h+ is more than 100km of electric range under WLTP testing; that is not a confirmed New Zealand range figure.
Revised suspension, steering and E-Four all-wheel-drive controls aim to improve handling and comfort, with development work conducted in Japan and at Germany's Nürburgring.
Lighting, screens and scent
Inside, a 12.3-inch instrument display sits alongside a 14-inch multimedia screen, with ambient lighting stretching from the dashboard into the doors.
The new Sensory Concierge coordinates lighting, music, climate, seat temperature and fragrance. A glovebox-mounted fragrance generator holds up to three cartridges, selected from five scents, giving occupants another way to tailor the cabin.
Outside, black detailing replaces much of the chrome, while illuminated L-shaped rear elements flank a lit Lexus logo. The new look accompanies an updated Lexus Safety System+, although the final equipment mix for Kiwi buyers remains to be confirmed.
