Lexus has revealed the all-new TZ, its first three-row battery electric SUV and a key new model in the brand’s expanding electrified line-up.

Built on a dedicated BEV platform, the TZ has been designed around what Lexus calls a “Driving Lounge” concept, with the focus split between smooth electric driving and a calmer, more spacious cabin for all three rows.
It is due for local launch in early 2027, with more specification details to come closer to that timing.
Lounge act

Lexus is pitching the TZ less as a traditional SUV and more as a mobile living space. That sounds like marketing-speak, sure, but the hardware behind it is relevant: a new platform, low centre of gravity, wide slim panoramic roof and high levels of cabin quietness.
Andrew Davis, Vice President of Lexus New Zealand, experienced the TZ at Shimoyama in Japan ahead of the reveal and said its refinement stood out immediately.

“The TZ really redefines what a luxury SUV can feel like,” says Davis.
“What stood out immediately was just how smooth and refined it felt. Because it’s built on a dedicated BEV platform, the weight distribution and low centre of gravity make it feel incredibly stable and composed on the road.”
Three rows, less fuss

The TZ cabin is intended to make long-distance SUV travel feel more relaxed, with what Lexus describes as lounge-like comfort in every seat.
The brand says the interior has been shaped to encourage shared time between passengers, rather than simply moving people from point A to point B.

Rear Comfort mode uses hardware and software electrification technologies to prioritise second- and third-row comfort, while the audio system, ambient lighting and acoustic tuning are designed to create a more soothing environment.
Takeshi Miyaura, Chief Engineer at Lexus International, says: “In addition to the Lexus experience of ‘seeing,’ ‘riding,’ and ‘driving,’ we now offer the new value of ‘spending time’ inside the vehicle.”
Electric, but still Lexus

Lexus says the TZ has been tuned through its Aji-migaki refinement programme, with an emphasis on composed driving, quietness and aerodynamic performance. The exterior blends a spindle body with geometric graphics, aiming to balance SUV presence with efficiency.
Sustainable materials also feature inside, including forged bamboo and recycled aluminium, tied to Lexus’ broader circular vehicle development approach.

The TZ sits at the fully electric end of Lexus’ multi-powertrain strategy. As Davis puts it: “Our Lexus multi-powertrain approach remains important because customers are all on different journeys. The TZ sits at the fully electric end of that strategy and shows what’s possible when Lexus fully leverages the benefits of a dedicated BEV platform.”
For Lexus, the TZ is not just another EV badge. It is a bid to make three-row electric luxury feel quieter, softer and more human, even if the phrase “Driving Lounge” may take some getting used to.
